My Brother-in-Law's Iraq Diary

(Photo courtesy of the Charlotte Observer.)

My brother-in-law, Sgt. Roy Lewis, is currently serving in Iraq.

WCNC, the NBC affiliate in Charlotte, NC where he, my sister and their family live is running his dispatches on their Web site. They also mail him disposable video cameras and post videos from him each week.

Check it all out here.

To say we're proud of him is an understatement.

Hasselhoff-range Missiles

Did David Hasselhoff really help end the Cold War? Maybe he should talk to North Korea.

Iran Eyes Badges for Jews, Christians, Others

From Canada.com:

Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.

"This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis."

Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical "standard Islamic garments."

The law, which must still be approved by Iran's "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims.

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.

"There's no reason to believe they won't pass this," said Rabbi Hier. "It will certainly pass unless there's some sort of international outcry over this."

Also in the piece...

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly described the Holocaust as a myth and earlier this year announced Iran would host a conference to re-examine the history of the Nazis' "Final Solution."

In related news, Germany has pledged to open its Holocaust records, perhaps (at least partially) in response to nutjobs like Ahmadinejad who say the Holocaust never happened.

Here's a movie about one other such nutjob.

Here's a movie about some local kids who are the polar opposite...

Condoleeza Rice Works Out!

Condoleeza Rice works out. Great. Good for her. More people should.

Next up: Donald Rumsfeld enjoys stamp collecting.

How can we have too much AND too little news at the same time?

Bush Didn't Know

What? Huh?

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush was unaware of the pending sale of shipping operations at six major U.S. seaports to a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates until the deal already had been approved by his administration, the White House said Wednesday."

No matter how you run down the different scenarios in your head, they're all scary. Well, ignorance is bliss, I suppose. I suppose we could sell operations of the White House to the UAE, too.

Oh, wait...

America. I'm begging you. Ethics and transparency. Vote for them. PLEASE.
