Craigslist Revisited
Officials at Craigslist did not respond to inquiries by our press deadline for this week's cover story. But they did respond. Below are the full comments of Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster.
1. How did you decide to bring Craigslist to Chattanooga?
Requests from users for a Chattanooga site was the key factor.
2. What potential do you see for your company in this market?
We hope the site will be useful to folks in Chattanooga.
3. What effect has Craigslist had on traditional, paid classifieds in
other cities?
Not sure, but we consistently hear that Craigslist has had a tremendously
postive effect for the people [who] use it.
4. Do you see a way for Craigslist and mainstream media sources to
peacefully co-exist?
Absolutely, the two complement one another.
5. What impact can we expect to see Craigslist have on the Chattanooga economy?
We hope that Craigslist will be as beneficial economically for people in
Chattanooga as it has been elsewhere, and that it will be a boon to small
businesses in Chattanooga as it has been elsewhere.
